Saylen (“the app”, “we”) is an on-device transcription app for iPhone developed by Vladyslav Prykhodko. This policy explains what Saylen does — and does not do — with your information.
The short version
Your recordings stay on your device. The audio and video you record or import, and the transcripts Saylen produces, are processed entirely on your iPhone and are never uploaded to us or anyone else. There are no accounts and no sign-in.
The one thing we collect is anonymous, aggregate usage and diagnostic data about the app itself — never your recordings — so we can find bugs and improve Saylen. Details are below.
Your recordings and transcripts
To turn speech into text, Saylen needs the audio you record in the app or the files you import. This content is handled only on your device:
- Transcription runs on-device using Apple’s speech frameworks and/or bundled models. No audio, video, or transcript is uploaded, transmitted, or shared.
- Your transcripts, titles, and edits are stored locally on your iPhone and are removed when you delete the app.
- Exports (TXT, SRT, VTT, PDF, Word, Markdown) are created on the device and go only where you choose to send them.
Permissions
- Microphone — to record audio you choose to transcribe.
- Speech recognition — to convert that audio to text on the device.
- Photos / Files — only to import a recording you pick. Saylen does not browse or upload your library.
You can change or revoke these in Settings ▸ Privacy & Security.
Analytics and diagnostics
Saylen uses a privacy-respecting analytics service (PostHog) to collect anonymous, aggregate information about how the app is used, so we can fix problems and decide what to improve:
- Usage data — for example which screens and features are used, and in-app events such as starting or finishing a transcription (counts and timings, not content).
- Diagnostics — app version, iOS version, device model, and crash or performance data.
What this data never includes:
- Your audio, your transcripts, or anything in them.
- Your name, email, contacts, or precise location.
This data is not linked to your identity and is not used to track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and never for advertising. It is used only to operate and improve Saylen.
Purchases
Subscriptions and the Lifetime unlock are processed by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. Saylen does not receive or store your payment details. Apple’s handling of the purchase is governed by Apple’s own privacy policy.
Children
Saylen is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the date above and post the new version at this URL.
